Teaching guide

Objective & content

The episode follows one day at camp in three short scenes: Rosie and Priya row a boat round in a circle, George and Ollie walk up a muddy hill, and Rosie and George toast marshmallows at the campfire. The episode teaches be going to for a plan with something already done about it (We're going to row to the island.) and will for a decision made on the spot (Fine. You row. I'll steer.). The vocabulary field is camp activities (boat, oar, island, hill, mud, campfire, marshmallow). Learners listen, then check their understanding with the in-app quiz.

Pedagogical guide

Every going to in the script has visible preparation behind it, such as a route drawn, sandwiches packed or marshmallows bought, and every will is decided in the line itself. Ask what is already done about each plan to help pupils choose. The script has no predictions, so the contrast stays on plan against decision.

Suggested procedure

  1. (5 min) Warm-up: ask what pupils are going to do this weekend and, for each answer, what is already done about it.
  2. (7 min) First listen, books closed: what are the three activities?
  3. (10 min) Second listen with the comprehension questions; pause after It's fine. Watch. and let pupils predict what happens to the marshmallow.
  4. (10 min) Grammar: two columns, going to beside what is already done and will beside the moment it is decided; sort the lines from the script.
  5. (8 min) Vocabulary, then pairs: A announces a camp plan with going to and shows the preparation; B gives a problem and A decides at once with I'll...
  6. (5 min) Wrap-up: did Rosie plan her last line or decide it now? Pupils vote on who wins each scene and say why.
