Objective & content
George comes home from school on a Tuesday and Kate gives him the wrong bag, so he explains what the family does and when. The episode teaches the five adverbs of frequency (always, usually, often, sometimes, never) with the present simple, including the position rule: before the main verb (I never swim on Tuesdays!) and after be (You're never late). The vocabulary field is daily routine and after-school activities (football practice, swimming lesson, piano practice, homework, snack). Learners listen for what George and Rosie do on which day, then check understanding with the in-app quiz.
Pedagogical guide
The adverbs appear in natural sentences, not a drill, and the joke (George is the organised one, Kate loses track) makes each one memorable. French and German learners often misplace the adverb, so the be exception needs a moment of its own: the first year only taught the main-verb rule.
Suggested procedure
- (5 min) Write the five adverbs on the board as a line from always to never; pupils place them on it.
- (7 min) First listen, books closed: why is Kate wrong about the bag?
- (10 min) Second listen with the comprehension worksheet; pause after George's never sentence and ask what he actually does.
- (10 min) Build the position rule from the script, before the main verb and after be.
- (8 min) In pairs, each pupil says three true sentences about their own week; the partner reports one back.
- (5 min) Wrap-up: one sentence about something they always forget or remember.
Materials & prerequisites
