Objective & content
On Saturday evening in the Walker kitchen, Kate checks the weather forecast for tomorrow's picnic while George hopes for rain and Rosie defends the countryside. The forecast says sunny all day, so Paul plans extra sandwiches. The episode teaches will for predictions in the positive (It will be sunny all day tomorrow.), the negative (We won't need our umbrellas.) and the question (Will it be warm enough to play football?). The vocabulary is weather and plans: forecast, sunny, warm, rain, umbrella, coat, football, countryside. Learners listen for the forecast, then check their understanding with the in-app quiz.
Pedagogical guide
One forecast gives all three forms in a minute, so pupils can compare them side by side. The typical error is word order in the question: Will it be warm? and not It will be warm? or Does it will be warm?. Will has no single-word equivalent in French or German, so stress that it is one small word before any verb and never changes form (no wills).
Suggested procedure
- (3 min) Warm-up: ask what the weather is like today, and introduce the idea of a forecast for tomorrow.
- (5 min) Meet the family and preview the ten words.
- (4 min) First listen: will tomorrow be sunny or rainy?
- (8 min) Second listen with pauses: is each line positive, negative or a question, what two words make won't, and where does Will go in a question?
- (7 min) Grammar focus: three columns (positive, negative, question) and a thumbs up or down drill (It wills be sunny is wrong).
- (6 min) Pupils write or say two or three predictions about tomorrow with will and won't; the partner checks the forms.
